Duo charged over forged S$100 note

Two young men were placed on a total of $255,000 bail after they pleaded not guilty to forgery charges pertaining to a US$100 note yesterday in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Nineteen-year-old Mikhail Baldeo of Grove Squatting Area and 20-year-old Henry Peries of Craig Street, Campbellville were jointly charged with having in their possession forged US currency, that is US$100, in Kingston on April 8. Baldeo was further charged with uttering false currency which he knew to be forged.
Attorney-at-law Basil Williams representing the duo told the court that it is not possible for both of them to be charged with the possession of the US$100 note, unless both of them were holding the money at the same time. He said that the men found the money on Sussex Street and Baldeo later tried to spend it on the seawall later in the night without Peries’ knowledge.

Williams said that neither of the young men was aware that the money was forged.
Baldeo was placed on $170,000 bail for his two charges while Peries was placed on $85,000 bail.

The matter continues in Court Four on April 15.
