Private sector welcomes return of state ads in SN

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) says the government’s decision to resume placing advertisements with the Stabroek News “will restore and confirm public faith in its commitment to uphold the constitutional right of freedom of expression and freedom of the press.”

In a press release the PSC said it believes that the society is best served by a media which is committed to the principles of the Declaration of Chapultepec.

It said too “the credibility of the press is linked to its commitment to truth, to the pursuit of accuracy, fairness and objectivity” and that “the attainment of these goals and respect for ethical and professional values may not be imposed” as “these are the exclusive responsibilities of journalists and the media” in a free society.
