Greaves wins three-stage warm-up event

Alonzo Greaves warmed up for this week-end’s National Sports Commis-sion (NSC)  annual Three Stage cycle road race when he won the Continental Cycle Club warm-up event yesterday.

The prize winners pose for photographer Clairmonte Marcus.The win made it two wins in as many weeks for Greaves following last Sunday’s Bico-sponsored Indian Arrival Day 50-mile cycle road race on the West Bank of Demerara.

Yesterday’s event saw the cyclists travelling from Plaisance east along the East Coast to the Half Way Tree before turning back to finish at the place of commencement.
In second position was John Charles with Ian Jackson third. Tony Simon, Jaikarran Sukhai and Robin Persaud rounded out the top six places while the remaining top 10 spots were filled by Junior Niles, Linden Blackman, Chris Holder and Chris Persaud.

Holder took the top spot among the juniors ahead of Persaud and Enzo Matthews while Hendy Springer won the veterans’ over-50 category from Compton Persaud.
Walter Isaccs, Monty Parris and Anthony Fariah occupied the other three places. The upright category was won by Jamal Bentley from  Kester Croal and Richard Charles while Ozia McAulay won the BMX Open category from Kunta Mc Kenzie.

Third place went to Asif Shaw with Russell Humphrey, fourth and Kevin Edwards, fifth.

Jason Pollydore won the BMX 12-14 years-old category from Ryan Bhagwandin with Naomi Singh receiving a  special prize.

Anthony Freeman won the BMX nine to 12 years-old category from Teon Joseph and Andrew while the BMX six to nine years-old category was won by Raymond Perez from Crystal Blackman and Kavin Mc Lean.

Other sponsors included Banks Trading, Mr and Mrs Perez, Neil Fraser, Mrs. Williams,  the Bunburys,  Alex Adams,  C. Lowe, Christopher Williams and Mr. Freeman.
