Shorties raced to their second straight victory of the Guyana Squash Association’s (GSA) Farfan and Mendes senior team tournament on Wednesday night at the Georgetown Club when they completed a stunning 3-2 against Spartans.
Shorties, consisting of five of the GSA’s top junior players -Keisha and Kayla Jeffey, Ashley deGroot, Deje Dias and Jason-Ray Khalil- eased to their second straight victory despite the aggressive play of former national player Robert Fernandes and GSA president Ronald Burch-Smith of the Spartans.
Victories for the Shorties came from second string Khalil, fourth string Kayla Jeffrey and fifth string deGroot, who defeated Lloyd Fung-A-Fat, Jean Claude Jeffery and Steven Xavier respectively.
Fernandes was too much for first string Dias to handle as he pushed him aside 15/9 15/8, while Burch-Smith overcame Keisha Jeffrey 11/15 10/15 but not before being stretched out a few times by the former Caribbean U-15 Champion.
Former national player Reagan Pollard helped Beatles to a 3-2 victory against The Real Thing when he got past current national player Alex Arjoon 15/8 15/13. Though Arjoon showed excellent court mobility and court awareness he was no match for the experienced Pollard whose superior shot placement outdid his opponent.
