Disregard for traffic laws

Dear Editor,
During my visit to Guyana in May 2008, blatant disregard for the traffic laws was common, such as not stopping at pedestrian crossings, overtaking on bridges, and so on. The Commissioner of Police should instruct each traffic officer that he expects ten tickets per day to be issued, and that  minibuses should be boarded and the standard observed, taking action against those found not up to standard. Other minibus drivers should retake the driving test.
Yours faithfully,
RS Nelson
