Weather continues to disrupt cricket in Berbice

Despite there being only one month of good weather for 2008 so far as compared to  four months in 2007, Chairman of the Berbice Competitions Committee and Public Relations Officer of the Berbice Cricket Board, Carl Moore, is optimistic that the major Berbice competitions will be completed in the stipulated time.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday Moore stated that some competitions from last year have not yet been completed  and the persistent rainfall has had  a major say in the whole issue.

Moore said among the major competitions,  the Isaac Bissoon First Division three-day competition  which began last October, is yet to be completed although one of the finalists have already  been identified since May. He stated that while the semi-finals between Rose Hall and Albion have seen the latter team coming out victorious, the semi-final between Young Warriors and Port Mourant   produced no results even after the match was extended to four days.

This game, he added,  will have to be replayed as soon as the rain eases to produce the other finalist.

Another competition that started in 2007 was the Tenelec Inc.  First Division limited overs round robin competition and this too was affected by rain, said Moore.

Tenelec Inc. is a Washington-based company.

Moore stated  that while Rose Hall Community Centre was set to play Albion Community Centre in one semi-final with Young Warriors taking on Scotsbury of Corriverton in the other semi-final, the rain has again held up that competition.

Meanwhile, the National Neal and Massy limited overs first division competition started in May but only four matches from the  first two rounds were played.

At the end of the Berbice leg of the competition the winning  team will go forward to the national semi-finals joining the Essequibo winner and the top two teams from Demerara.
