Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Stellon David recorded four of his team’s accumulated 10 goals against Uprising Football Club Sunday evening as the Georgetown Football Association’s Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Cellink Plus Premier League competition continued at the Tucville playfield.
David, who started the second round of the tournament as the leading goal scorer with eight goals, now has a tally of 12 goals from seven matches.
Dwight Peters added a double in the 27th and 40th minutes and Warren Gilkes scored in the 35th minute while David scored his first goal one minute before halftime as GDF led 4-1 at halftime with Freeman Fordyce netting for Uprising.
Upon resumption, David came out firing and blasted in three more goals (48th, 68th and 81st) whilst Beresford Williams, Peters and Rayon Morrison found the back of the net in the 58th, 70th and 87th minutes respectively.
The win takes GDF to 17 points and they remain in second place on the points standings behind Sunburst Camptown who are on 18 points.
In the final match of the double header, Elton Browne, Shawn Bishop and Anthony Abrahams were responsible for the comfortable victory Alpha United gained over Pele FC.
Alpha drew first blood with Browne scoring in the 10th minute while Bishop increased the lead with a 29th minute goal.
Some of that pressure was eased when Travis Grant spoiled Alpha United custodian’s chance of a clean sheet in the 30th minute.
Pele tried to find the equalizer but it was Alpha who were to score next with Abrams scoring in the 82nd minute.
The win moves Alpha to 15 points while Pele are on eight points.
Alpha United and Pele FC are set to clash with Santos FC and Sunburst Camptown respectively on Friday.
