Hockey Board resumes training for PAHF Under-21 championships

The Guyana Hockey Board has called up 28 players to resume training in preparation for the Junior Pan-American Hockey Championships to be held in October in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Board will meet with players tomorrow at Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to discuss the resumption of training for the players.

The meeting will start at 18:00 hours.
The GHB will be looking to finalise preparations for the PAHF Under-21 men’s tournament billed for October 17-26 in the twin island republic.

After an absence of 10 years from international competition, the Guyanese men made a strong showing when they returned to competition at the Pan-American Indoor Cup, narrowly missing the bronze medal when they lost to the USA by 7-6 in extra time in the third place playoff.

The men then went on to capture silver in 2007 at the Alba Games and bronze at the Caribbean Championships later the same year.

Despite taking the gold at the junior Caribbean Cup in 1992, Guyana’s best showing to date at the junior Pan-American level remains a 6th place out of 12 teams back in 1988 when they narrowly missed the semi-finals after defeating the highly ranked Chile only to go down by 4-3 in extra time against the USA once again.

The 28 players called are: Kennedy Sooknauth, Renick Evelyn, Raphael deGroot, Peter deGroot,  Zach Gonsalves, Philip Xavier, Eric Hing, Trevon Smith, Anthonio Pemberton, Shaka Gill,  Amarnaught Ramgathi, Anton Duke, Avinan Rampersaud, Joel Hunte, Travon Young, Shaquelle Assana, Ryan Primo, Andrew Stuart, Leon Bacchus, Bashmadev, Ron Ramlall, Rockwell, Travis Mackensie, Leroy Jack, Orin Mayers, Rhysduff, Kevin Fogenay and Michael Xavier.
These players are asked to walk with their  passports to the meeting tomorrow.
