Women accused of robbing man

Two young women who allegedly robbed a man of a cell phone and other articles were placed on $40,000 bail each when they appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. A fifteen-year-old mother of one and Abena Williams, 27, of 58 Farm Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, both pleaded not guilty to the charged of armed robbery. It is alleged that on September 17 at Cornhill Street, the two young women being armed with an ice-pick robbed Lachman Singh of a Motorola Razr cell phone, two gold rings and cash, all totalling $84,000 in value.

Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson stated that on the day in question  the women  were at Demico House drinking with some friends when Singh had a misunderstanding with the women.

He said that an argument ensued and the women’s friends ran away. He said further that a few unpleasant words were exchanged between Singh and the women and the complainant is now alleging that they cornered him with an ice-pick and robbed him of the articles. The defence  attorney then applied for bail.

The magistrate then placed the two defendants on $40,000 bail each and ordered that they return to court on November 4.
