Cellink Plus Premier League…

– GDF arrests GFC

By Kizan Brumell

Football fans witnessed two thrilling victories by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Sunburst Camptown on Sunday in the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) GT&T Cellink Plus Premier League competition at the Tucville  Playfield.

In the first game touted as the `Battle of the Juices’ Sunburst Camptown defeated Fruta Conquerors 1 – 0 while in the second encounter the Guyana Defence Force arrested the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) for failing to put up a fight. The GDF won that encounter 3-0.
But it was the feature game of the evening that took all the plaudits. In an intense battle, which at times got a bit aggressive, several  Camptown players were forced to leave the field after being injured attempting to gain possession of the ball.

Almost all the Camptown players who were affected were able to continue the game except Shawn Bascom who suffered an ankle injury during a robust  challenge.
It took a goal from Camptown’s Mervin Joseph in the 28th minute to break the deadlock and as expected after getting the lead, the Camptown players defended that lead as if their lives depended on it to come out victorious.

Conquerors almost scored the equalizer with a shot that beat the Camptown custodian all ends up before slamming into the horizontal bar and then rebounding onto the field of play.
The victory takes Sunburst Camptown to 24 points while GDF are still on top with 27 points.

In the other-one-sided affair Dwight Peters in the 38th, Gavin Wilson on the stroke of halftime and Marlon Benjamin in the 51st minute, were the goal scorers for the GDF as GFC failed to resist the arresting officers.
Sunburst Camptown will now challenge Uprising while Fruta Conquerors will face Santos on Friday.
On Sunday Pele and GDF will go up against GFC and Alpha United  respectively.
Kick-off times on both days is 6pm.
