Garrett Cup…

Canje Secondary School received a mauling from Berbice High School (BHS) as the Vibert Garrett Cup Inter-Secondary Schools football continued in Berbice on Monday at the Esplanade ground in New Amsterdam.

The boys’ of Canje Secondary who were bigger in size got the shock of their lives from the BHS boys who made the goalkeeper seemed porous. Within the first minute of the game Mark Wong found the back of the net with the first goal from then on goals rained down like water during a heavy downpour.

Xavier Fraser poured in give while Graham Thomas scored a helmet trick, netting all four of his goals in succession. Rawle Ceasar joined the party with a double before Dane Johnson capped a day of misery  for Canje Secondary with the final goal.

In the other game of the double header a double strike from Vryman’s Erven Secondary School striker Sherwin Wiliams condemned Berbice Educational Institute to a 2-0 defeat.

Following Monday’s results, BHS and Vryman’s Erven joined previous winners Orealla High School, Line Path Secondary, Central Corentyne High and Lower Corentyne High in the quarter-finals stage of the competition.

On Monday, the final games of the opening round will be played in Group D at the Albion Community Development Centre ground.
