Biker knocks boy into trench, flees

An 11-year-old boy was admitted to the children’s ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital after being the victim of a hit and run on the Mahaica Public road yesterday afternoon.

Akeem Peters of Lancaster, Mahaica and a student of the Gibson Primary School accompanied by his friend were going to buy an exercise book when he was hit by a motor cycle and pitched into a trench. He had left his afternoon lessons at Helena Number 2 to buy the book at the Mahaica market.  According to the boy’s aunt, Barbara Singh the rider of the motor cycle ran off from the scene leaving the child in the trench. Public-spirited citizens rushed him to the hospital in a taxi.

The boy’s father Noel Peters told Stabroek News that he received a call from the people he worked for who do not live far from where the accident happened. He said that his son sustained injuries to his ribs and his left leg.

He said too that the police had launched a search for the rider but he was not found.
