Motorcycle accident leaves Mahaica youth dead

An accident at Drill Old Road, Mahaicony on Sunday left a young Mahaica man dead after he lost control of his motorcycle while negotiating a turn and ended up into a nearby trench.

Dead is motorcyclist Kevin Peters, 23, of Supply, Mahaica. His pillion rider, Kevin Ashley, 20, of Helena Number 1, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was left injured.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the two men were proceeding on motorcycle CK 8330 along the southern drive lane of Drill Old Road, Mahaicony, allegedly at a fast rate of speed around 9 pm on Sunday, when Peters, while negotiating a turn, lost control of the motorcycle and ended up in a nearby trench.

As a result of the accident, the two men suffered injuries about their bodies.

Peters was picked up in an unconscious state, while Ashley was picked up in a conscious state and they were rushed to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where Peters eventually succumbed.

Ashley has since been admitted to the facility for observation.
