Samaroo fourth centurion in 2008 BCBC/NBS second division

Vinode Samaroo, playing for John’s Cricket Club of Port Mourant became the fourth centurion and highest individual scorer of the competition when he hit 127* against Letterkenny Young Stars when the latest round of matches in the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC)/ New Building Society (NBS) second division competition continued over the weekend.

That knock, which was decorated with 16 fours and two sixes, enabled his team to rattle up 240 for 8 in 40 overs while his team-mate off spinner Genesh Jallim took 5 for 27 from 6.2 overs to dismiss their opponents and neighbours for 129.

Sewchan Ramphal’s 75 not out was the backbone of Sand Reef’s 156 for 8 in 25 overs which turned out to be too much for Kendell Union who fell short by 44 runs.

Number 71 scored at more than seven runs an over to reach 258 all out in 38 overs courtesy of a polished 73 from Manouram Vincent and an even 50 from Somdat Singh.

Number 73 Young Warriors in reply were bowled out for 180.

Medium pacer Shazad Azgar of Number Two Youth and Sports Club took 6 for 21 as D’ Edward were bowled out for 104, then watched as his batsmen made heavy weather of the target, before scraping home by two wickets.
