GCB/Gafoors 20/20

Richard Ramdeen’s century, coupled with Davendra Thakurdeen’s half century and James Mc Almont’s five-wicket haul were the highlights of the latest round of matches in the Berbice zone of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Gafoors Group of Companies sponsored national first division 20/20 competition which was played last weekend.

Also in the spotlight were Karamdat Bissoondial, Moshin Peerkhan, Michael Saul and Clarence Beresford, who all struck half centuries while national spin twins Devendra Bishoo and Veerasammy Permaul spun webs around their team’s opposing batsmen with a four-wicket haul.
At the Cumberland ground, Young Warriors (YW) defeated the Blairmont Community Centre (BCC) by five wickets in their encounter, thanks to the batting of Ramdeen.

BCC won the toss and opted to take first strike, and must have felt at ease when they scored 168-6 from their 20 overs, with Bissoondial leading the way with his 86 that included eight sixes and four fours.

Bhudram offered him support with a polished 39 (6×4, 1×6) as Balram Samaroo continued to be a thorn in the flesh of YW opposing batsmen, with 3-27 while  national under-19 all rounder Seon Hetmyer took 2-33.

When YW began their reply, they were indebted to Ramdeen who made an unbeaten 112 (8×6, 7×4) while  sharing a 63 runs first wicket partnership from a mere 4.5 overs with Waheid Edwards (20) and a further 84 from 7.4 overs with Hetmyer (23) as they scored 172-5 from 17.5 overs.
Only Eon Abel with 2-34 was the principal wicket taker for BCC, albeit in a losing cause. At the Skeldon Community Centre ground, Port Mourant inflicted a 99 runs defeat on the home team, thanks to the batting of Thakurdeen and Peerkhan, along with the bowling of Yogindra Harrinarine.  Thakurdeen struck 89 (8×4; 3×6) while  Peerkhan made an unbeaten 81 (11×4) as they shared a 152 runs first wicket partnership from 16.2 overs, as Port Mourant compiled 197-2 from their 20 overs.

Berbice under-19 all rounder Clinton Pestano took 2-59 for Skeldon, who were routed for 98 from 19.5 overs in reply. Pestano returned to score 20 while  Shohab Rasheid made 14, but the batsmen had no answer for Harrinarine (3-24), Rajiv Ivan (2-26) and Krishna Balgobin (2-11).
At Rose Hall Canje ground, Bermine edged Police by two run in their encounter, thanks to the bowling of opening batsman Maxie De Jonge.
After Bermine took first strike and scored 123-5 from their 20 overs, of which national under-19 captain Eugene La Fleur made 34 and Devon Clements 28 against the bowling of Albert Sinclair who took 2-18 for Police, De Jonge returned to grab 4-15 with the ball, to reduce Police to 121-7 from their 20 overs.

Michael Saul scored 59 while  Michael Sinclair made 39, but their efforts were not good enough to prevent Bermine from scraping home by two runs, as Julian Moore offered support to De Jonge with 2-21.

At Scottsburg United gr-ound, the home team inflicted a 138 run defeat on Upper Corentyne Reform in their encounter.
Scottsburg won the toss and opting to take first strike, scored 170-4 from their 20 overs with Clarence Beresford 54, Adrian Amsterdam (49) and national under-19 wicket keeper batsman Anthony Bramble supporting with 33.

Nazim Mohammed too 2-32 bowling for Upper Corentyne Reform, who in their turn at the wicket, found the pace of Mc Almont (5-5) and Errol Byass (3-21) too much to handle and folded for a paltry 32 from 9.2 overs.

In the final game of the round, Albion Community Centre squeeze passed one of their nemesis Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) by two runs in their match-up, thanks to the bowling of Bishoo and Permaul.

Albion batted first and scored 122-9 from their allotted overs. They were led by national middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine who made 47 and Bishoo and Imran Khan who both made 21.
Renwick Batson took 2-24 for RHTWSB, who were held to 120-8 from their 20 overs in reply. Assad Fudadin (28) and Andre Percival with 26 were the principal  scorers for their team against the bowling of Permaul and Bishoo who both took four wickets each for 26 and 33 runs respectively.
