Albert Philander won the `Blue Ribbon’ 30-lap race while there were impressive wins for Alonzo Greaves, Christopher Holder and Jason Pollydore at Friday’s Cadbury sponsored Floodlights Track Cycling programme at the Everest Club ground on Camp Road.
Philander paced himself brilliantly to win the feature 30-lap event by a handsome margin after carting off 24 of the 30 prime prizes at stake.
Warren “Forty” McKay held the advantage for the first five laps and then Greaves took over partially but after the two riders faded, Philander took control and never looked back.
Mc Kay out-sprinted Holder to capture the second position in the event that attracted 13 starters.
Greaves carted off two races on the night’s card, the first being for categories one and two riders over five laps where he got the better of McKay and Philander while in the Devil Takes the Hind Most race he won from Holder and McKay.
Holder was also in top form winning the juniors, categories three and four as well as the juvenile races.
In the juniors race, Holder rode to victory from Enzo Matthews and Jonathan Fagundes. He then returned in the next event to beat Ozia McCuallay and Fagundes while in the categories three and four events he disposed of Darren Allen and Andre Persaud in the five-lap event.
Pollydore ruled the roost in the boys’ 12-14 years category beating Brandon Baker and Ryan Bhagwandin in their five-lap race.
He then won the boys’ 12-14 years BMX event from Quincy Evans and Baker.
Ian Jackson was top among the veterans U-45 when he won from Linden Blackman and Virgil Jones in the four-lap race. Aubrey Springer carted off the veterans O-45 event from Walter Isaacs and Clement Douglas.
Raymond Perez was too strong for Kareem McLean and Dineshwar Ragabeer in the boys’ 6-9 years BMX race while Crystal Blackman proved too strong for Ashley Anthony in the girls 6-12 two-lap event.
Fagundes secured a win over McCuallay and Rockey Kissoon in the BMX boys’ Open five-lap race while McCaullay bounced back to take the BMX boys’ Devil Takes the Hind Most event.
The 16-race programme was sponsored by Geddes Grant through their recently launched Cadbury brand and organized by National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohamed in association with the Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club.
The opening remarks were made by Geddes Grant Manager Rudy Jairam while other representatives of the company assisted in the distribution of prizes.
