Camp St inmates in getaway bid

Broke out of capital section, one nabbed in Rasville Six prisoners held for serious crimes yesterday morning attempted to escape from the Georgetown Prison but only one managed to scale the fence and he was eventually recaptured in Rasville as a result of quick action by members of the Joint Services.

Suspected ‘lepto’ victim passes away

One of the two persons suspected to have the bacterial disease leptospirosis has since passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) but according to Minister of Health Dr Leslie Ramsammy the person was not from one of the flood-affected areas.

Fire put out at Help and Shelter

A major disaster was averted early yesterday morning when a fire in the bottom flat of the building that houses Help & Shelter and the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP)  on Homestretch Avenue was quickly extinguished by firemen.

Public servants get year-end pay boost

5% more for those earning above $50,000 effective May 1, 2008 The Government says that from January 2009 the temporary $4,000 relief paid to public servants earning below $50,000 per month as of May 2008 will be incorporated into their basic salaries and another 5% has been approved for those earning over $50,000 effective May 1, 2008.
