An early morning collision between a car and a minibus at Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue yesterday saw two persons admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital and three treated and sent home.
Admitted to hospital were conductor of the minibus Brian Knight, 27, of 17 Craig Street, Campbellville and passenger Jasmine Lyken, 17, of ‘A’ Field, Sophia.
Knight was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with serious head injuries, while Lyken, who also suffered head injuries, was admitted to ward C.
When this newspaper visited the hospital Lyken, who was lying on her right side, could not move and could barely whisper “pain”. Her features were swollen and abrasions were visible all over her shoulders and face.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 6.30 am at Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue resulting in damage to the computer control box for the traffic lights at that intersection.
The car was reportedly heading west out of the eastern half of Campbell Avenue, crossing Sheriff Street while the bus was coming from a southerly direction and was about to turn into Campbell Avenue.
Driver of the minibus, Winston Abrams of 370 Section ‘B’ Sophia sustained injuries to his head and left hand.
Driver of the car, Randy Brown, 31, of 23 Saffon Street, Charlestown sustained bruises to his arms and legs, while Dionne Shaffee, 15, of 653 Cummings Lodge sustained bruises to his left knee. They were all treated and sent home.
Up to press time, Knight was still in the ICU.
