Two men who allegedly robbed another at gunpoint of one motor scooter and other items together valued $170,000 were remanded to prison when they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Adrian Bishop of First Street, Campbellville and Devon Ford were not required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on August 6 at North East La Penitence, Georgetown the two men while being armed with handguns robbed Marlon Henry of his motor scooter and other items.
“I ain’t thief no bike,” Bishop told the court. Ford, making a gesture in the general direction of Henry, said “he give me the bike to ride and I pawn it for $15,000.”
According to the prosecution, on the day in question the virtual complainant (VC) Henry was on Toucan Street, North East La Penitence and was about to dismount his scooter when Bishop and Ford pulled up alongside him in a black vehicle.
The duo, the prosecution said, while threatening the VC with handguns proceeded to rob him of the articles. They were later arrested on August 8 and were reportedly found with the scooter in their possession. Bishop and Ford were then placed on an identification parade and positively identified.
It was further pointed out by the prosecution that Bishop has been before the court in the past for similar matters and therefore bail should be refused.
Magistrate Priya Beharry remanded the men to prison and the matter is to continue on August 25 in Court Five.
Bishop had appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on indictable charges of robbery under arms on May 7 and later that day he appeared before Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle on two charges of robbery with aggravation.
