Brute force approach to policing debated as summit opens

In a thinly-veiled critique of conditions under which members of the Guyana Police Force serve and those in which detainees are held, Caricom’s Assistant Secretary-General Dr Edward Greene yesterday called for security to move away from brute force tactics, while President Bharrat Jagdeo insisted that such methods were sometimes justified in the fight against violent crime.

Man, 54, remanded on carnal knowledge and rape charges

A 54-year-old man, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a female without her consent while she was under the age of 16 and who allegedly raped the same girl when she was over that age, was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Cougars are Sweet 16 champions
