Deonarine, Chattergoon spearhead Albion to easy win

Albion Community Centre’s test players Narsingh Deonarine and Sewnarine Chattergoon stamped their authority by spearheading their team to an easy nine-wicket win over Scottsburg United when the 2009 Berbice Cricket Board organized Telenec Inc. sponsored first division limited overs cricket competition continued last Saturday.

Chattergoon, bowling right arm leg-spin, took 4-10 from 6.5 overs as Scottsburg were bowled out for 108 in 39 overs.

He and Deonarine then posted 105 for the first wicket from 17 overs.

Chattergoon fell for 43 but Deonarine made an unbeaten 52 decorated with six fours.

Albion reached 110-1 from 17.4 overs with  Imran Khan unbeaten on four.

Newcomers Edinburgh had a good start at the first division level by beating Blairmont Community Centre.

Off-spinner Riad Ali,  Ralph Chakalall and  Trevon Peters took three wickets each as Blairmont reached 214 from 47 overs, thanks mainly to 71 from Nedesh Basdeo.

However, Ali who represented Berbice at the youth level, came back with the bat and hit a responsible 55 decorated with seven fours and together with 48 from Yudranauth Seepersaud saw Edinburgh to a four-wicket win. They ended on 215-6 from 41.1 overs.

Sherwin Murray’s 61 was the backbone of Skeldon Community Centre’s 173 from 37 overs made against Upper Corentyne whose off spinner Bheem Singh took 5-23 from eight overs.

Upper Corentyne, in their response, fell short by nine runs managing only 164 in reply.

In scores from the matches played: At Albion, Albion Community Centre beat Scottsburg United by nine wickets. Scotsburg United winning the toss and batting first 108 in 39 overs with Mark Lionel 38, Anthony Seeraj 16, Sewnarine Chattergoon 4- 10, Doodnauth Lallbeharry 2-17 and Hemant Rabindradat 2-10. Albion Community Centre 110-1 from 17.4 overs, with Narsingh Deonarine 52 not out and Sewnarine Chattergoon 43.

At Edinburgh, the home team defeated Blairmont Community Centre by four wickets in their encounter. Blairmont Community Centre losing the toss and sent in to bat first, were bowled out for 214 in 47 overs, with Nedesh Basdeo 71, Karamdat Bissoondial 48, Naresh Boodram 23 being the principal scorers.

Ralph Chakalall (3-23), Trevon Peters (3- 53) and Raid Ali (3-44) were the leading wicket takers for Edinburgh who scored 215-6 from 41.1 overs in reply, thanks to Ali’s 55 (7×4), Yudranauth Seepersaud 48 and Robin Seebarran 31. National fast bowler Brendon Bess took 3-54 for Blairmont.

At Skeldon, Skeldon Community Centre beat Upper Corentyne by 9 runs in their match which was reduced to 46 overs–a-side.

Skeldon Community Centre losing the toss and being asked to take first strike, scored 173 in 37 overs with Sherwin Murray 61 and Jermain Reid 39 leading the batting against the bowling of Bheem Singh who took 5-23.

In reply, Upper Corentyne were bowled out for 164 in 44 overs, with Premdat Singh 38, Jameel Azad 33 and Romel Dowlat 20 being the leading batsmen against the bowling of pacer Jermain Reid (3-43), Murray (2-21) and Clarence Beresford  who took 2-24.

Action in the tournament will continue today with the following matches in Zone A.   Rose Hall Community Centre  will oppose  Young Warriors at Rose Hall, Canje with Imran Moakan and Shawn Coonjah being the men in charge.

At Cumberland, Zaheer Moakan and Clement Brusche will officiate in the Bermine/ West Berbice clash  while  across at Edinburgh, the home team will attempt to arrest Police, under the guidance of Roshan Moakan and Rafeek Latiff.

The lone Zone B match will pit defending champions Albion Community Centre against Port Mourant at Port Mourant under the supervision of Jaipersaud Hardeo and Augustus Outar.
