AAG short-lists several teams for overseas meets

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) has short-listed teams for five upcoming international track and field competitions during the period June 18 to August 2.

According to an AAA press release, these competitions are the Central American & Caribbean Age Group Championships, South American Senior Championships, 6th IAAF World Youth Championships, South American Junior Championships and the Pan American Junior Championships

On June 18 and 19 a team of four including  Amelia’s Ward Primary School’s Roslyn Rawlins (Girls U-13), North Ruimveldt Primary’s Joel Walcott (Boys U-13), Mackenzie High School’s Laneice Dennis (Girls U-15) and St. Joseph’s High School’s Michael Williams (Boys U-15) will be competing in Nassau, The Bahamas at the Central American & Caribbean Age Group Championships while Faye Naughton has been named as the manager/chaperone of the team.

Guyana will be represented in Lima, Peru by Cleveland Forde (1500m and 5000m), Michael Saul and American-based Guyanese sprinter Lee Prowell (100m and 200m) and Kelvin Johnson (5000m and 10,000m) at the South American Senior Championships from June 19-21.

The team’s lone female is sprinting sensation Alisha Fortune who will be competing in the 100m and 200m while Lyndon Wilson is named as the team manager and coach.

Still unchanged is the team of Janella Jonas and Ricardo Martin (800m) who will be attending the 6th International Amateur Athletics Federation World Youth Championships from July 8–12 in Italy and Mayfield Taylor-Trim has been appointed manager/ chaperone of the team.

Top junior male and female sprinters Treiston Joseph, Okeme Stuart, Roxanna Rigby and Nadine Rodrigues will be representing Guyana at the South American Junior Championships in Caracas, Venezuela (July 25-26) and the Pan American Junior Championships in Port of Spain, Trinidad (July 29–Aug 3).

Guyana’s top female distance athlete Alika Morgan has also been short-listed but has not yet been confirmed pending a medical while Robert Chisholm and Pamela Philips have been named as the coach and manager of the teams.
