PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidadian teenaged batting sensation Adrian Barath says he is eyeing a West Indies call-up soon and hopes to impress the selectors when he turns out for the regional “A” side against the touring Bangladeshis in a three-day tour match starting this Friday.
The 19-year-old has scored heavily of recent, amassing 846 runs in this year’s regional four-day competition including two centuries – 192 against the Leeward Islands at the UWI grounds in St Augustine and 113 against the same opponents in Anguilla.
Barath also hammered an impressive 132 against England for West Indies “A” earlier this year at Warner Park in St Kitts.
“I think this is a great opportunity for me to play against Bangladesh, knowing this is a Test playing nation,” the right-hander said.
“It is also important for me to go out there and give 100 per cent and also to show what I am made of. I want to do well because I believe that being consistent will enhance my chances of representing the West Indies senior team in the not too distant future.”
Barath left here Monday for Barbados where the “A” team is assembling for the match at Kensington Oval.
He has already appeared in 21 first class matches, scoring 1608 runs at an average of just over 47.
Last week, Barath’s contemporary, 20-year old Darren Bravo made his international debut against India in the first One-Day International of the four-match series at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
