KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Yannic Cariah stroked a century as Trinidad & Tobago’s batting clicked again on the opening day of their second round TCL Group West Indies three-day Cup match against the Windward Islands yesterday.
The 17-year-old left-hander hit 106, an innings that formed the foundation of T&T’s 325 after they were asked to bat first at Jamaica Broilers Grounds.
In reply, the Windwards were 12 without loss.
Cariah faced 136 balls and struck nine fours and a six and shared in a vital third-wicket partnership of 137 with the left-handed Evin Lewis who lashed an aggressive 77 laced with nine fours and four sixes.
The stand ended when Lewis was caught by Audie Alexander off Kaveem Hodge’s bowling, with T&T on 169 for three. Cariah was the fifth out at 258, caught by Rudolph Paul off Alexander’s bowling.
All-rounder Akiel Cooper chipped in with 37 while Sachin Boodram (29 not out) and Teshawn Castro (22), frustrated the Windwards with defiant lower order batting.
Audie Alexander finished with three for 44 with his left-arm spinner while John Fabien (2-41), Josh Thomas (2-49) and Dalton Polius (2-89) captured two wickets apiece.
