Second Brush’s Basketball Classic to bounce on August 21

It was considered  one of the biggest tournaments to grace the Linden community when it was first held last year and this time  the organizers are promising an even bigger Brush’s Basketball Classic which will run from August 21-29 at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) hard court. Eight teams drawn from Linden and Georgetown are expected to do battle for a winner’s purse of $100,000 and some stunning trophies.

Courts Pacesetters defeated Kashif and Shanghai Kings in the inaugural staging to win the tournament and take the first lien on the trophy.
This year, the defending champions, Dyna’s Ravens and Eagles are the three teams from Georgetown while the Kings, Amelia’s Ward Jets, Wismar Pistons, Glands Trucking Service Bulls, and the Victory Valley Royals are the teams from the mining town who will do battle. Former national basketball player and national coach Mike Brush and his three brothers, James, Clyde and Clifton are the main sponsors of the event. “This is just our way of giving back to Linden and to the sport of basketball,” declared Clyde Brush during an interview with Stabroek Sport yesterday.

“Mike as you know was a former national player and played in the 60s and was later the national coach for this country. James and Clifton were former national players so these guys just want to do this for basketball, nothing special…the Brush’s Classic is here to stay,” the Lindener said. Last year Banks DIH was the major sponsor of the event but Brush said that to date Ground Structure Engineering Corporation which is headed by Charles Seres is the only company to come on board. But regardless of this he says that the event will certainly be big.
