Guyana, Trinidad secure wins

The Guyana women’s team won its first match of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) senior women’s tournament after they defeated Grenada by 55 runs at the Blairmont Community Development Centre ground yesterday.

Grenada, who won the toss and opted to field, were made to rue that decision in the end as Guyana reached a challenging 172-8 off their allotted 50 overs.

June Thomas top scored with 43 while Davanie Seenarine supported with 23.

In reply, Grenada reached 117- 9 when the overs ran out.

Susan Redhead and Debbie Ann-Lewis were joint top-scorers for Grenada with 19 runs each.

Off-spinner Seenarine took two wickets for 25 runs.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines by 57 runs yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground.

Trinidad and Tobago, sent in by St Vincent and the Grenadines posted 207 -8 with Amanda Samaroo top scoring with 50 off 96 balls.

Britney Cooper chipped in with a breezy 46 off 76 balls.

Bowling for St. Vincent and the Grenadines Clea Hoyte took 2-40 from five overs. Cordel Jack supported with two wickets.

St. Vincent in reply reached 150 -6 off 50 overs with Hoyte scoring 62 off 101 balls. Juliana Nero chipped in with 21.

Britney Cooper and Anisa Mohamed took two wickets each.
