Official welcome for Bolt and Jamaican athletes

ST JOHN’S, Antigua,  CMC – Sprint sensation Usain Bolt was expected to be given a VIP welcome when he arrived in the island last evening to attend to a private commitment.

The 23-year-old, the world record holder in both the 100 and 200 metres, is part of a visiting delegation of Jamaican athletes and administrators.

Bolt and the delegation were expected to be officially met by the country’s Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack.

Bolt shocked the world last month when he lowered his world records in the sprint double at the World Championships in Berlin.

He clocked 9.58 seconds to win the 100 metres before returning to capture the 200 metres in 19.19 seconds.

Last year at the Beijing Olympics, Bolt also set new records in the events en route to clinching the sprint double there.
