Robbers hold up shipping company

Stabroek News has learnt that the incident occurred some time after 5 pm; the men entered the office and demanded that those present hand over cash. The business was closed yesterday afternoon when this newspaper visited.

Several residents recalled the commotion that went on that afternoon. According to one neighbour, screaming was heard and minutes later he noticed the police outside the business.

He was unaware of the robbery and only knew that something was amiss when he heard screams. Another resident said he saw the police when he looked out and later saw one of the owners arguing with the members of a private security firm. He later commanded the security officials to leave his premises. According to the resident, this is the first time the business was robbed.

A police official yesterday confirmed the robbery but said there were no details available because the persons involved are not speaking to the police.

This newspaper was told that after the owner refused to assist the police officers, they left.
