Madramootoo smashes 212 n.o as RHTB crushes Silver Star by 365 runs

The victory was the fourth straight win for the youthful RHTB team as they seek to book a place in the quarter-final. Batting first on a wicket with some moisture from early morning showers, RHTB amassed a massive 419-5 off their allotted 40 overs.

Madramootoo who ended on an unbeaten 212 (10×4; 15×6) received support from former national under-15 player Clinton Pestano 60, Trevor Thomas 45 and West Indies female cricketer Shemaine Campbell who scored a quick 56 not out (5×4, 1×6).

Pestano and Thomas added 103 for the first wicket in 12 overs before Pestano was caught at long off trying to hit off spinner Suresh Gopie for his fourth six. Madramootoo and Campbell added a record unbeaten 240 for the sixth wicket off 22 overs. Bowling for Silver Star Daniel Lewis took 2-50.

In reply Silver Star were bundled out for a meagre 54 in 17 overs with only former Berbice under-15 player Jamal Jarvis (14) and Nicholas Cameron (12) reaching double figures. Campbell returned with the ball to take 3-6, off-spinner Loydel Lewis 3-15 and Pestano 3-12.

Madramootoo’s knock broke the fifteen-year-old record of James Fraser for the highest second division score by a Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) player. Fraser had scored 140 versus Liverpool in 1994; he also broke the 17-year-old record of Inderpaul Mohan (8) for the most sixes in an innings for the club.

Madramootoo and the impressive Campbell also rewrote the RHTY&SC’s record books with their sixth wicket partnership of 240. Steve Cecil and Randolph Keseran had held the record for 15 years after adding 163 against Hampshire in 1994.
