Clothes vendor remanded over theft of $15,000 wristwatch

A clothes vendor was remanded to jail yesterday by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson after he pleaded not guilty to stealing a wristwatch valued $15,000.

Michael Carter, 39, of 247 South Ruimveldt on January 16 at Regent Street allegedly stole the watch from Ricardo Jagdeo.

Carter told the magistrate, “I didn’t take no watch – that watch is my watch.”

But  Jagdeo told the court that Carter would usually “snatch” watches from his stand and on Saturday he did so again.

Jagdeo said that he reported the matter to a police officer nearby and the man was apprehended. The item was recovered and lodged at the Brickdam Police Station.

Carter is to make his next court appearance on January
