A special constable attached to the Guyana Power & Light (GPL) office at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice suffered injuries above his left eye and forehead after a glass bottle was thrown at him around 4:15 pm yesterday.
Relatives told Stabroek News Yashwant Sooknanan was returning home from work when a resident pelted him with the bottle causing him to collapse.
They said the man started to shout for help and a woman who ran to his rescue stopped a minibus which took him to the hospital.
According to them, after the GPL truck dropped him off at the head of the street he was riding the rest of the way home farther in the street.
Sooknanan related to them that five men were standing at the corner of the street and he noticed one of them coming towards him with the bottle. Before he realized what was happening the man hurled the bottle straight at his face and he and the others ran away.
They said that Sooknanan does not have any problems with the men and he was baffled as to the motive of their attack. The matter was also reported to the Fort Wellington Police Station.
