The Stamp It Out Bill needs to be brought to the National Assembly as soon as possible

Dear Editor,

It’s very disturbing to read and hear of cases of child molestation which are increasing each day in our country. It is my hope and prayer that these molesters are dealt with in an expeditious manner and justice comes swiftly. These victims who are our future, in many cases are left with scars for life. Being a mother of three sons and also a teacher, it upsets and disturbs me when I hear of these cruel, immoral acts.
Only recently there was a case in Region 10 (Linden) where a businessman was allegedly caught with a 13 and a 14-year-old. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the police in Linden for dealing with this matter in an expeditious manner.
I know that many victims are afraid to speak out because of fear, loss of life or job. Guyanese need to speak out against this disgusting act which is destroying our younger generation – the future leaders of this nation.
It is my hope that the Minister of Human Services will now see the need to bring the Stamp It Out Bill to be debated and passed in the National Assembly as soon as possible, since we the members of the National Assembly are responsible for the protection of our nation’s children.

Yours faithfully,
Vanessa Kissoon
