BFA Coca Cola league launched in B’ce

The 2010 Berbice Football Association/Coca Cola Senior Football League was launched in New Amsterdam Tuesday with plans to play matches under floodlights to encourage spectators to support the tournament.

Speaking at the Launch, Banks DIH Limited Sales and Marketing Executive, Carlton Joao, disclosed that due to the success of the last year’s tournament, the local beverage giants will once again sponsor the league under the Coca Cola brand.

Joao said he expects great enthusiasm from the players, officials and spectators for the upcoming league as it will be played around the time that the World Cup football finals will be staged in South Africa in which Coca Cola is one of the main sponsors.

“We were encouraged by last year’s tournament but we would like to see more spectators at the    matches so for this year’s event matches will be played under lights,” said Joao.

President of the BFA Keith O’Jeer thanked Banks DIH for sponsoring the tournament again.

He said the number one soft drink in the world (Coca Cola) was supporting football in Berbice.

Banks DIH also took the opportunity to launch the Coca Cola and Sprite Zero beverages where samples were presented to  players, officials and members of the media in attendance.

Prizes won during the 2009 league were also presented with NA United Football Club receiving the Winner’s Trophy and a cash prize.

Cougars Football Club, and Real Union second and third place finishers respectively were presented with trophies and cash prizes while fourth place finisher Monedderlust received a cash award.

The Most Valuable Player was Alwin McDonald of Monedderlust; Adrian Adams of NA United was the highest goal scorer while Ryan Kellowan was awarded the Best Goalkeeper prize.

Also present at the presentation were BFA Secretary Joseph Simon, Coca Cola Brand manager Jennifer Khan, Berbice Sales Manager Joshua Torrezao, Oral Jones Brand Manager and Communications Manager Troy Peters.
