Boy, 13, on wounding, assault charges

Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo has ordered a probation report to examine the background of the boy, who has confessed to charges of unlawful and malicious wounding on a peer. His victim is also charged with assaulting the defendant.

According to Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, the two were good friends  prior to  March 26, when they had a fight at a playfield in Angoy’s Avenue. It resulted in the two boys assaulting each other.

However, the defendant went home and later returned with a cutlass, which he used to broadside and chop his friend on the hand. According to the complainant, their peers were goading them on to fight, after a lit match was thrown on the defendant accidentally.

The complainant was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was treated , while the defendant was arrested and taken to the Central Police Station where he was charged.

Both boys are to be kept in  the custody of their parents until April 30, when the case is scheduled to be heard again.
