An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow morning on the body of minibus conductor Godfrey Hoyte who was stabbed to death just after midnight on Sunday at the Stabroek Market square.
Hoyte, 41, of Shell Road, Kitty was stabbed twice and died as he was being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by police. The suspect has since been arrested and remained in police custody up to late last night. Police have also been able to recover a knife which is believed to have been used to inflict the fatal wounds.
Meanwhile, Hoyte’s younger brother Nicholas was murdered in early January at Sixth and Light streets, Alberttown. Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had told this newspaper that the younger Hoyte was suspected to have been involved in “organized crime”.
Hoyte’s reputed wife when questioned about whether the brothers’ killings could have been linked said at this point she didn’t believe so. She had told Stabroek News on Sunday that she had learnt that Godfrey Hoyte had been arguing with his assailant. The argument, according to her, turned into a confrontation which left Hoyte parrying off thrusts from the knife with a piece of wood.
The man’s mother, she further reported, is expected in the country some time next week. His funeral will not be conducted until his mother has arrived.
