Soca Warriors off to Antigua for Tri-Nations tournament

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors left here yesterday for Antigua for a Tri-Nations tournament involving the hosts and St Lucia, kicking off a busy itinerary of international friendlies.

The 18-man squad, comprising home-based players, will open the tournament tomorrow with a game against Antigua before facing St Lucia next Tuesday in their second encounter.

Coach Russell Latapy will be without three players for the trip, losing Trent Noel, Jan-Michael Williams and Matthew Bartholomew to injury, but has brought in only one player in goalkeeper Kevin Graham for the trip.

“It’s basically the same squad of players. In spite of the disappointing results in recent matches, we will continue to assess the performance of these players with an aim to get the best possible group together for the Digicel Caribbean Cup,” said team manager, David Muhammad.

“We have seen the potential of these players and coach Latapy will use what is available to him at the moment. Again, we will also see what additional players may be needed for the actual competition.”

T&T will be trying to get their preparation for the upcoming Digicel Caribbean Cup qualifiers back on track after losing a string of internationals recently.
