Cummings takes first day honours

Roy Cummings shot a net 66 to take first day’s honours on the opening day of the Digicel Golf Classic  at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demarara.

The experienced golfer was in good nick against a strong field of 55 golfers including several overseas players who are already in the country for next weekend’s Guyana Open championships.

Playing off a 16 handicap, Cummings recorded a gross 82 to come out ahead of Muntaz Haniff (handicap 17 gross 84) and Lakeram Ramsundar (handicap 13 gross 80) who both shot 67 net.

Mohanlall “Santo” Dinanauth recorded the lowest gross of 73, handicap 5 and net 6 and had the longest drive on the number 5 fairway.

Rawle Moore was also in striking distance of the leaders with net 68 from handicap 17 and gross 85.
Other leading contenders were Imran Khan, Clifford Reis, Chatterpaul Deo and Alfred Mentore all on net 69.

Defending men’s champion Vijay Deo was tailing on net 79 from gross 86 playing off a seven handicap.
William Walker was Nearest to the Pin.
A fierce battle is anticipated today the second and final day of the tournament.
Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer, Gregory Dean tee off the tournament yesterday in ideal weather conditions.

Today’s action will also feature a mini tournament between staff of Digicel and Scotia Bank.
The presentation of prizes will take place tomorrow evening at the LGC.
