Relief Council shares hampers to Mahdia fire victims

The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) distributed a number of hampers to families at Mahdia who suffered losses when fire gutted a section of the community’s business district last month.

In a press release the GRC said the hampers comprised mainly of food items which was made possible through an initiative it collaborated on with the Guyana Gold Board, NAMILCO, the Beharry Group of Companies, Ricks and Sari Limited, Bryden and Fernandes, Ansa McAl, T Geddes Grant and Guysuco. Since the fire the GRC also provided clothing, facilitated the preparation of relief packages donated by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.

The GRC said its representatives who travelled to Mahdia to distribute the items were Lynette Carter, Donald Mentis and Michael Bascom. It also noted that the Gold Board and other agencies responded readily to its requests on behalf of the fire victims.

Over the past 16 years the GRC has provided relief to persons suffering distress countrywide. It expressed gratitude to the volunteers who come at short notice to prepare the packages and the staff who worked beyond the call of duty.
