PSC supports restoring of Stabroek Market Square

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) supports the authorities in restoring the historic Stabroek Market Square and stands ready to assist affected stakeholders.

In a press release the PSC said it agrees with the regularizing and upgrading of the location and hopes an atmosphere conducive to commerce can be established in the area and maintained.

Nevertheless, the PSC said it “considers and sympathizes with those dislocated vendors.” PSC members recently met vendors to hear their thoughts on the issue and to determine ways in which they can assist. “We believe that the persons we met are hopeful of being relocated and will cooperate with the authorities,” the release said.

According to the release, the PSC also recognises that other business persons, namely taxi and minibus operators have been affected and hopes that their problems are also rectified in a timely manner. There is an urgent need to restore order and to ensure that vendors and taxi and minibus operators are able to conduct their affairs in an organised way, it added. “We need to think ‘Georgetown First,’” it added.
