Labourer granted $50,000 bail over theft of copper

A man was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $50,000 after he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with simple larceny.

It is alleged that Trevor James, of ‘E’ Norton Street, Georgetown, stole 21 copper spikes, worth $63,000, property of the state of Guyana on January 20.
The labourer who pleaded not guilty stated, “I don’t steal meh worship.”

Stephen Telford, prosecuting, told the court that the facts are as charged and no further details were given..
James was placed on $50,000 bail and the matter was adjourned until February 4.
