Pearl did not have to endanger his life to find out what he already knew

Dear Editor,

I refer to your editorial of January 22, captioned ‘Remembering Daniel Pearl.’ It is quite clear that the man who killed Daniel Pearl had no humanity in him; this is not much different from those who sent their forces to kill Iraqis and those who sent their soldiers to kill peace activists in international waters.  Death is death in spite of which way you look at it.

Daniel Pearl was indeed a good human being never promoting violence just doing investigative journalism. What I cannot understand is why, as you put it, Pearl had to go to his nation’s sworn enemies to find out what lay at the heart of their hatred.

Everyone who keeps abreast of world news knows what lay at the heart of the hatred. It is the US unconditional support for Israeli crimes against the Palestinians; Pearl did not have to endanger his life to find out what he already knew.

Yours faithfully,
W P George
