GDF wins male and female team titles at Inter-Services Cross Country Championships

Team GDF snatched the male and female titles at the conclusion of the Inter-Services Cross Country Championships on January 29, the GDF said in a release on Friday.

In the male category, Corporal Wilbert Mingo finished comfortably ahead of Dennis Horatio of the Guyana Police Force to cop first place while his teammates took the 3rd, 4th and 5th place spots.

For females, Private Ashanti Scott breezed home in first place, ahead of the GPF’s Jinella Jones while her teammates clinched 3rd, 4th and 6th place finishes.

Scott and Mingo had also placed 2nd and 3rd respectively at the National Cross Country Championship which was run off on January 16.

Meanwhile, Mingo has been selected as a member of the team which will represent Guyana at the North American, Central and Caribbean Championships to be held in Tobago on February 19.
Expressing satisfaction with the excellent performance of the team, GDF’s athletics coach, Robert Chisholm, said that the athletes had benefited from a well structured three-week training programme which was conducted at Base Camp Seweyo.

“Although there is always room for improvement, I know that these athletes committed themselves to training hard and that commitment has brought the desired results,” Chisholm is quoted as saying.

The GDF also extended congratulations to the team and wished them every success in the future.
