Linden inter-ward football set to create waves

The Stag Beer Inter-Ward Seven-a-Side Street Football tournament is geared to create waves among competing teams from the various areas in Linden when it kicks off on February 14.

According to organizers, there is profound interest brewing among eager football players in the mining town.

The tournament is being run by the Young Achievers group in collaboration with 20/20 Sports Bar. The top team will pocket $200,000, second place will take home $100,000 and third place will receive $50,000. According to member of the organizing group, Anthony White, the inter-ward knock-out format will be used to get as much participation as possible and to give a number of players a chance to cash in on the prize monies up for grabs in the tournament. The areas – Central Mackenzie, Christianburg/Blueberry Hill, Amelia’s Ward, Poker Street Flat, Mines, Wisroc/Block22 and Half Mile/One Mile – will all front four teams each, which according to White, will see not only players coming out in their numbers, but people within the various communities coming out also.
