Shot teen burglary suspect discharged from hospital

The 17-year-old burglary suspect who was shot at a service station at Mahaica on Tuesday was discharged from Georgetown Hospital yesterday while his accomplice is recovering after undergoing surgery.

Stabroek News understands that the teen, whose address has been given as of ‘D’ Field, Sophia, is in police custody assisting with investigations. When this newspaper visited the hospital, the teen’s accomplice, Sean Sinclair, a taxi driver of Pattensen, East Coast Demerara, was asleep. His right foot was heavily bandaged. He remains under police guard.

Police had said the men were shot at Good Hope, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, by retired Colonel Chabilall Ramsarup and his son Arun Ramsarup. Initial investigations revealed that Arun Ramsarup, who was armed with his licensed shotgun, was making checks on his brother’s service station, which was closed at the time, when he was confronted by two men, one of whom rushed towards him and was shot to his left foot. The other man ran away. The injured man was later identified as the teen.

During further enquiries made by Chabilall Ramsarup, a vehicle which was parked not far away and which was suspected to be involved in the matter was encountered. As Chabilall Ramsarup, who was armed with his licensed firearm, approached the vehicle the, driver of the vehicle rushed towards him and was shot to his right foot. He was later identified as Sinclair.
