Vendor remanded on $1.2M robbery charge

Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a vendor accused of robbing a man of items valued over $1M, when he on Friday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Rodwin Leron Dey is that on December 29, at Robb Street, Georgetown, he robbed Peter Abdool of one laptop, a quantity of cash and a hand bag valued $1.2M. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge of robbery when it was read to him.

Police Corporal Venetta Pindar told the court that on the said day, the virtual complainant (VC) was approaching his car which was parked on Robb Street when Dey allegedly accosted and robbed him of the items, then made good his escape. An alarm was subsequently raised and police on mobile patrol pursued the accused.

The court heard that the lawmen discharged a round at Dey, which hit him in the leg. He was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and admitted, after which he was arrested and charged with the offence.

Dey was ordered to appear in court on March 10.
