Morton half-century helps Queens Park to victory

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad,  CMC – Former West Indies batsman Runako Morton put his legal troubles behind him to stroke an unbeaten half-century for Queens Park, helping them to a resounding 174-run win over Preysal in the fifth round of the Premier Division here Sunday.

The right-hander cracked 52 while Marlon Barclay also got 52 and West Indies A batsman Justin Guillen, 43, to allow the hosts to declare their second innings at 153 for one.

Set 285 for victory, Preysal folded for 110 with Barbadian medium pacer Dwayne Smith snaring three for 30.

The 32-year-old Morton, who has played 15 Tests and 56 One-Day Internationals, was arrested and charged last month for drug possession. He is currently on bail.

Trinidad and Tobago off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth had earlier snatched six for 20 as Preysal were dismissed for 159 after resuming on 31 for one in pursuit of Queens Park’s first innings of 209.
