Former West Indies U-19 batsman and West Indies emerging player, Kevlon Anderson, will take up a stint in Trinidad and Tobago where he will play club cricket for Preysal.

This is according to the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) who noted that it was Academy Head Coach, Andre Coley, who facilitated the process after Anderson was not selected for the Guyana Harpy Eagles for the first two rounds of the West Indies Championship.

“The assignment gives Anderson a chance to get in the much-needed match practice with constraints capable of supporting his growth. The pitch conditions are likely to be similar to those that the Guyana Harpy Eagles will confront during their last three round of matches in the West Indies Championship, 2023,” the board stated in the release.

“Additionally, it is expected that the responsibility of an overseas professional will assist Anderson to continue to develop the requisite attributes of an international player,” the release added.

Anderson is set to depart Guyana Saturday to take up the Trinidad engagement.

Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) High-Performance Manager Graeme West praised the initiative and encouraged the GCB to collaborate with CWI and Preysal Cricket Club on the player development plan. West posited, “I think it’s a great opportunity for Kevlon to get some competitive cricket and prepare himself for the final three rounds of the WI Championship.”

GCB president, Bissoondyal Singh, commended CWI for its proactive approach to the management of youth players.

He added that great effort was  being made to nurture and develop youth players, which initiative is an indication of the meaningfulness of GCB’s and CWI’s Youth Development Programmes.

Singh declared that the practice exercises in the youth development programme must be complemented by the player’s involvement in matches which provides real-game situations.
