Robbery accused tells High Court he’s not the person in indictment

A man indicted for robbery under arms told the Berbice Assizes yesterday that he was not the person named in the indictment.

State Counsel Dionne McCammon informed Justice Brassington Reynolds that she wished to present the indictment of Ram Sookdial, called Kevin Narine,  for the offence of robbery under arms.

However, Mc Cammon   said she was unsure if the accused was represented and, if not, whether he needed time to  retain counsel.

But the well-attired man, responding to queries by the judge, said  he was capable of representing himself while declaring that the name on the indictment was not his and he then laid over documents to support his claim.

Subsequently, the prosecution was tasked to ascertain the man’s identity by tomorrow when the case will be called again.
