Brathwaite in squad but selectors delay naming final 13

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, CMC – West Indies have delayed naming their final 13-man squad for the second Test against Pakistan starting here Friday.

The regional side arrived here yesterday afternoon with 14 players after teenaged opener Kraigg Brathwaite was included in the contingent from the first Test.

His inclusion has increased speculation over the future of Devon Smith who has failed badly in the series.

He scored 13 and one in the last Test but also struggled in the One-Day series with scores of 17, 16 and nought.

On every occasion, he has been dismissed by off-spinner Mohammed Hafeez, either lbw or bowled.

Brathwaite, meanwhile, was part of the 15-man group invited to train in Guyana last week but was not included in the 13-man squad for the first Test West Indies won by 40 runs.

The West Indies Cricket Board indicated then he would have remained in Guyana to work with batting consultant Desmond Haynes.

West Indies selectors will name the 13-man squad tomorrow.
