The Crown Company, a leading Unit-ed Kingdom based provi-der of food, venue and event solutions has achieved certification to ISO 22000 2005, Food safety management systems- Requirements for any organisation in the food chain.  This is in recognition of its ability to control food safety hazards and ensure that food is safe for human consumption.

Implementing ISO 22000 has earned the organisation certification to a total of four management standards, including ISO14001, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001.  Thus this organisation has now integrated quality, environmental, food safety and occupational health and safety management.

The interview is between ISO Focus and Karl Wilkinson, Safety and Assurance Manager of Crown Company.

Q: How did the company integrate all four management systems?

R: “In order to create a truly integrated approach, the first stage was to develop the management system in conjunction with the various businesses in the group.
It is important that they were engaged from the outset in order for them to be able to understand compliance later on in the process.”

“We also issued the managing directors of businesses with a copy of the management system, and armed them with the information they needed to implement and monitor compliance in their business via regular audits.

This was then supported by additional audits which I completed to ensure a second level of monitoring to safeguard compliance.

The procedure was not simple and nor should it be. Whilst the standards are quite demanding and sometimes very prescriptive, the correlation between the stages is seamless so you are able to work through the requirements in an ordered manner that flows appropriately.”

“There are naturally many common requirements shared by all of the standards, so the latest standard we achieved was less difficult as we had feel for the process.”
